PROJECT BACKGROUND / Escape from the constraints

"YE International" is a constantly growing company providing the widest range of products and operating throughout Russia with clients from various industries. For this company it is a necessary condition for the development of the business to have the availability of relevant and timely information on which a strategy for customer interaction is built. Understanding this has set the need to implement a system that could integrate information from a variety of companies used in the database.

Before the beginning of the project,only Microsoft Excel features were used to perform a data analysis. As a result of the limited capabilities of the software, the information was rarely updated, once a month on the average, and the reporting process was long and laborious.

With the continuous growth of the company and signing new distribution agreements, the situation had to change. As a result, it was decided to implement a business intelligence system to be able to perform sales analysis and improve the timeliness of data which could help solve existing problems and lay the foundation for the further development of business intelligence system, covering all the business processes of the company and delivering information to all the units of "YE International".

Business Intelligence System requirements were quite high. First of all, it was necessary to get new possibilities for the analysis of data from different sources with the help of the system, and to provide automatic generation of reports. In addition, the solution had to be a tool for high-speed development of new applications.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION / Under the sign of distribution

As one of the solutions to the tasks considered, was the finalization of 1C based analyses, in accordance with the requirements of their systems. However, the choice was made in favor of QlikView business intelligence system. BI Consult consulting company out of St. Petersburg has become YE International's partner in the system implementation.

The project on QlikView implementation in "YE International" has been carried out in a short time in 2011. In the first step, an application for the formation of the holding statements was created, which included a set of indicators with fixed algorithms for the calculation.

Next, we developed an application for the analysis of sales in different sections: in branches, regions, industries, among the customers, employees, nomenclature groups, suppliers, manufacturers, etc. The solution also allows to conduct a detailed analysis on the amount of orders, with the feature to obtain the details on transactions, comparative analysis, and analysis of performance standards.

Then an application for the analysis of marketing performance was created. Using techniques such as basket analysis, ABC-XYZ, RFM and others, this solution allows us to analyze customer activity, the effectiveness of customer service, customer segmentation by industry, profitability, and also to predict the status of clients and the dynamics of the customer base.

During the project, transactional data on the activities of the company for 7 years and about 300,000 of headings were downloaded into the system. The basic data for business intelligence have become 1C, CRM-system, nomenclature reference books and data from Microsoft Excel. Currently, QlikView system has more than 15 employees at the head office and branches of "YE International."

"YE International" was able to get the first results in less than a week after the start of the project.

PLANS/ Path to Mobility

We are also planning to implement a functional warehouse and logistics analysts into QlikView system that is already being used with new features and expand the old ones. In addition, the company intends to ensure compatibility with the use of mobile devices in a normal mode.
