Data representation in the associative model
The associative data model represents the tables linked by the key fields. This model is created dynamically at the time of loading data into QlikView, and the fields with the same naming are getting associated with each other. When the user selects a value in one table, automatically all the associated values in other tables are also getting selected. For example, for the model presented below, with the choice of the customer, all orders placed by this customer are automatically selected, since the orders table is linked to (associated with)the table of customers. But since the orders table is also linked to (associated with) a table of goods, in addition to all the customer orders, all items purchased by this customer are also automatically selected. And vice versa - when choosing a product, all orders of that product are getting automatically selected, along with all the customers who have made the same orders, and therefore bought this product. Associative models do not require drill-down capabilities. It performs data analysis at any stage of the model and works in any direction.
The associative model allows you to link multiple tables on one field with the same name. Every two tables can be linked by one field, to avoid ambiguity association. If two or more tables are to be connected on multiple fields at once, then an additional field needs to be created as the key, performing combination or hashing of the fields.
In - Memory Query Processing
QlikView is built on the technology of the new In-Memory generation. Handling and storage of all the data is performed in memory. This provides ultra-high performance and eliminates the problems of traditional business intelligence tools, which are slow due to the constant need for disks. Such systems are able to provide only a static, prepared ahead of time information. With QlikView all data (from pratically any source) is loaded into memory and is available for immediate analysis in real time.
